New York’s Senior Prescription Plan

Do you need help paying for your prescription drugs? If you are a NYS senior 65 years of age or older, EPIC may be able to help you save 90% of the cost of your prescriptions. When EPIC is used with Medicare Part D or other prescription coverage, it helps you save even more money by covering costs not included such as deductibles, co-payments, non-covered drugs, and the Medicare

coverage gap. If you‟re not currently participating in a Part D plan, EPIC will help determine if you may be eligible for a federal benefit that will save you $1,500 more a year in healthcare deductions.

To enroll in EPIC, seniors must have annual incomes under $35,000 if single, or under $50,000 if married. Seniors with a Medicaid spend-down plan are eligible, but those with full Medicaid benefits are not. Seniors with moderate incomes pay a low quarterly fee and participate in the Fee Plan. Those with higher incomes participate in the Deductible Plan and must meet an annual deductible. Members who pay a fee or those who have met their deductible, pay a co-payment at the pharmacy when purchasing prescriptions. By using EPIC and Medicare drug coverage together, seniors not only save more on prescription drugs, but have better coverage.

Confused? A representative will be at the center on Wednesday, March 3rd from 12:30-2:00 pm or call the toll-free EPIC Hotline at 1-800-332-3742 (TTY 1-800-290-9138). Their website is:

The Truth About the Irish

Ireland is the world’s 20th largest island.

Swallowing a live frog was an old Irish cure for a stomach ache.

Ireland is the best place on the planet to avoid an earthquake. No epicenter has ever been recorded there.

The Irish alphabet has only 18 letters. J, K, Q, V, W, X, Y and Z are not used.

Ireland now has more tourists than residents. There are 5 million visitors a year, compared to a population of about 3.8 million.

St. Patrick’s real name is believed to have been Macwyn Succcal.

The only town in the world to be named St. Patrick is in Missouri.

You’re wished every good thing

that St. Patrick’s Day can bring-

it’s sure to be happy all through…

You’re wished all the best-

and may the day be blessed

with the luck of the Irish, too.

2010 Census:

To Define Who We Are As A Nation

What: The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States.

Who: All U.S. residents must be counted- both citizens and non citizens.

When: You will receive your questionnaire in March 2010 either by U.S. mail or hand delivery. Some people in remote areas will be counted in person.

Why: The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years to count the population and deter-mine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives.

How: Households should complete and mail back their questionnaires upon receipt. Households that do not respond may receive a replacement questionnaire in early April. Census takers will visit households that do not return questionnaires to take a count in person.

The Importance of Census Data

  1. E very year, the federal government allocates more than $400 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data.

  2. Census data are used to determine locations for retail stores, schools, hospitals, new housing developments and other community facilities.

  3. Census data determine boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts.

Census Questionnaire: Easy, Important and Safe

  1. With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Households are asked to provide key demographic information, including: whether a housing unit is rented or owned; the address of the residence; and the names, genders, ages and races of others living in the household.

  2. By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individuals responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.

Key Dates:

  1. February- March 2010- Census questionnaire are mailed or delivered to households.

  2. April 1- Census Day

  3. May- July 2010- Census takers visit households that did not return a questionnaire by mail.

  4. December 31- By law, the Census Bureau delivers population counts to the President.
