The City of Tonawanda is located in Erie County, New York and is nestled
between the New York State barge canal and the mighty Niagara river. Through
the heart of the city runs Ellicott Creek. The city boasts 7 miles of
shoreline on navigable waterways through 141 acres of maintained parkland.
The City of Tonawanda Police Department's Marine Division fills a law
enforcement role on the City's waterways and combines with the Tonawanda
Fire Department and provides rescue/recovery services. In addition, the City
of Tonawanda Police combine resources with other local, state, and federal
law enforcement agencies and provides these services throughout an expanded
area including the eastern terminus of Lake Erie and the entire upper
Niagara River to Niagara Falls, New York.
The Marine unit consists of 4 specially trained Police Officer boat
operators and 20 volunteer members of the Tonawanda Police Underwater Squad.
The Marine Unit maintains a 25' Aqua sport patrol boat and two personnel watercraft.
