LANDFILL MEETING NOTES
February 15, 2008
On Friday, February 15, 2008, there was a meeting of Officials from the City of Tonawanda, Town of Tonawanda, Erie County, NYS D.E.C. and EnSol Corp. (Contractor on site). The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the concerns of the residents of the 4th Ward of the City of Tonawanda – especially the residents of Hackett Drive who border on the Town’s landfill.
The following is a list of deliverables identified at this meeting:
Ø EnSol will supply a phone no. for complaints. Ø EnSol will shut down the operation if a water truck is inoperable or not available for dust control. Ø A chemical agent (Sodium Carbonate) will be placed on roadways for dust control. Ø An educational letter will be sent to residents advising them of a fence to be placed delineating known location of radioactive waste. Ø East end of landfill to be graded and seeded. Ø Educate dump truck drivers to limit tailgate noise. Ø A group letter will be sent to our Congressional delegation to gain support for complete removal of all MED/radioactive material. Ø Discuss the future use – including possible road access- of the landfill.
As a group, we will work towards the total remediation and removal of radioactive waste at the Town of Tonawanda Landfill with an end use that will be acceptable to all.
